Know of any good magazines, journals, or informational websites about creating a green home? Share them with the greater community or look through what others are reading to start yourself down the path to creating a more efficient and sustainable home.

I met this person on another forum about sustainable living and think its pretty interesting to see this family's success with a solar house.

http://www.solarhouse.com/

Take a look at how much energy they make and in Maine to boot.

For those thinking of building a green home, I think its important to look at what the leading designers and architects are doing. You can farm for ideas and see what the possibilities are. I would like to recommend the following as a shining example of green architecture.

James Cutler of Cutler Anderson Architects ( http://www.cutleranderson.com/ )

So I will do the full disclosure thing like the rules say.

I do not work for or have never employed Mr. Cutler. I have had dinner with him after a college lecture, but other than that, I have no ties to the man or his firm. I just feel that his attitudes and understanding of nature and human interaction with nature are right on.

If you have cable and are into the whole green movement, I am sure you have heard of this, but the people at the Discovery Channel have developed a new network, Planet Green. They are also tied in directly with the people at treehugger.com from what I hear.

The network has some great programming and some meant just to draw in viewership but its worth a watch for a weekend to see if there is anything that might work for you.

Steve Thomas, the guy from This Old House has a show and there's a show called World's Greenest Homes. I like to watch it most weeks and have learned a few things from time to time.

I was looking around for site about green living and I found www.treehugger.com

I know they have informational news, a blog, forums, lots of great information in many many categories.

I don't work there and I have never posted anything there. I just thought it was a great source of information.

I have always felt like the trade journals for the building industry are a great place for the new homebuyer or builder to start when they are trying to come up with ideas about their new home.

If not for the articles, then just for the images and the products. Its about idea generation and coming to the table with you designer or architect with some better ideas and what I like to call talkitecture.
