Very nice to come across this page. My company does civil engineering and I am really curious how we can help with greening our projects. www.civildevelopmentgroup.com We don't have as much say on a project as an architect, but there are some interesting things I think a Civil on a project can control. We are going to start writing a blog mainly about this topic, so hopefully I can gather lots of info from this community. Thanks for making the site really easy to maneuver around.

Brandon

Thanks, we are attempting to be a bit more environmentally friendly compared to other Civils in the Los Angeles region.

We finally have started a blog as well in case there in any interest in what we see out here. http://civildevelopmentgroup.com/blog

I am a business owner (data center) looking for resources for a re-build we have on a site of buildings just being purchased. This looks more like projects only focused on residential. Correct me if wrong, please.
What my company is looking for is an experienced individual to create 3-d models for what we are planning on re-building at the site mentioned above.

I guess the question would be: Is this a proper area to find out about resources for my company or is there a better place to go?

This really isn't that type of forum. There are experienced professionals here who may be able to help you, but this is more of a community to exchange ideas. Anyone is welcome to respond to you, but we would prefer this not turn into an outsourcing forum.

Hi,
Let me join the "green" revolution, i love to make some effort to “go green” have a great time. Our duty is now, Children should be taught that sustainability is not just about buying more energy efficient products, but also designing to last, making full use of what we have, wasting less and recycling more.

I am all about making sure that the future generation understand what going "green" is, but I do feel it is unlikely that this will happen in one generation or even two. Someone has to teach the children (all of them) how to live more sustainably and there just aren't enough adults that understand or even care enough to do this. It will take time to build that critical mass where the new paradigm is of sustainability and not consumerism and wealth.

Rome wasn't built in a day and unfortunately the most developed nation in the world (IMHO) is 10-20 years behind where we should be. Europe, note that they are much older countries, are already light years ahead of the US. Teaching our children to be sustainable is one thing, but we need to take notes from the countries that are already integrating green technologies into everyday life and push forward now. If the systems aren't in place to live sustainable lives, then teaching our children will simply give them a hypothetical of what things could be rather than what they will be.

Howdy Guys,I just signed up and I am really excited to be part of this community. My main point from next year will be to start being as green as possible and to switch to more Eco-Friendly options.I think most of the people just pretend to be very knowledgeable when it comes to green homes and living but I am one of those who will openly admit that I am still learning, reading, searching the Net for relevant Forums and Blogs where me and other greeniacs can share useful information... The Eco-living propaganda is very trendy at the moment and I deeply hope to last.Thank you for hosting this forum!

Jimjam, welcome to the community. Its always good to hear a new voice and someone who understands that there is much to learn. I have been at this for nearly a decade and will gladly admit that I still have much to learn.

Green has become the most trendy "color" around. I recently attending the 2010 GreenBuild conference and always surprised at this event to see how many vendors and manufacturers are claiming to sell sustainable products. There is so much crud to wade through to get to the root of what makes each product sustainable and hopefully this site can help you through the process. Once again, welcome.

Hello, I'm a dedicated environmentalist. I believe the go green movement can't happen over night. We need to build up to a better lifestyle in steps. I'm glad places like this exist so we may reduce our Human Footprint by bettering our lives!
