Hi, so I am an accountant looking to buy a new home due to a relocation. I have always had an interest in the environment and want to take action now. I have always taken for granted the amount of energy my house uses, both in operation and to create in the first place.

This site looks promising and I thank you for creating this community.

Hello,

I am a young professional and I currently rent. I want to find ways to green the house I live in without ticking of my landlord. He is green if by green you mean worried about money.

It would be nice to convince him of the benefits of going green, and that is why I am here. I am a novice at the greening of a home, but I am a hippy at heart.

Good to know that there are resources like this on the web.

In the spirit of full disclosure, I am a homeowner who is also employed by the local power company. Before people start thinking that I am part of the problem, let me just say that the company I work for does indeed provide green power options and advice pages on how to save money.

I will also admit that some of this green movement seems a bit trendy to me and I am not sure if it will last. I am here simply to learn a few things, maybe change some of my opinions and save a little money.

I am a professional architect focusing on the residential markets. My firm specializes in sustainable homes and has for 30 years now. We look for opportunities to help educate the building professions and the greater public about what it means to build and live sustainably. We do push most of our clients out of what they thought they would be comfortable with, but that is just part of change.

This forum is just one of many that we feel will help us with our mission to save the environment one house at a time.

Thank you to the owners, administrators and moderators for bringing this great service.

Hello and thank you for the forum.

I am an energy/green consultant for home owners and buyers. I do energy audits and have recently started toward becoming a LEED Green Rater for my regional LEED for Homes Provider.

I approach homes from a whole system, all inclusive perspective. Energy in, waste out, as well as reduction in stress and lifestyle changes for my clients.

There is so much information to wade through when it comes to going green and especially in the home. It can be daunting and that is why this forum and the professionals like myself are beneficial to the people who have decided to make this move.

I am not advertising for myself. I give the advice I put forth on this forum freely and with no strings attached.

As a die-hard math oriented engineer, I haven't spent much time worrying about the environment, well that is until the past few years when my girlfriend (now fiancee) woke me up to how my behaviors and consumer attitudes were harming the world I enjoyed everyday.

That is what brings me here. To learn and discuss topics about green homes and living green. I am looking for a new home or new to me home and I want it to be green. I want my new life and new wife to be happy.

I know my screen name seems a bit over the top, but let me explain. I have had the same lifestyle for about 10 years now. Drive 40 miles roundtrip to work 5 days a week and go shopping on the weekends. Take business trips twice a month and live in a home that arguably is too large for me. About a year ago, a friend of mine from the local PTA mentioned that I was a little on the wasteful side. A little forward I know, but she was right. So I decided to try to do something about it. I read a little here and there but I didn't find anything I was willing to do. I wanted to keep my life as it was.

Long story short. I started buying carbon offsets from terrapass. I was buying them on a weekly basis.

Recently I have made a vow to myself to stop the offsets and try to make some real substantive changes to my life, and part of that is with my home. And that brings us to why I am here. So hello to everyone on the forums and I hope that through this site I can learn what I need to do to help green my home and eventually my life.

Hi everyone. I am a college student studying architecture and environmental design and I have joined this forum because I want to take my career towards residential architecture.

I am not sure if I will be successful or if there are even many opportunities, but its what moves me.

I love the idea of houses that meld with their surroundings and do no harm to the environment. Admittedly, I am a bit of a modern day hippy, but I think its needed.

So I guess I am one of those old dogs trying to prove that I can still learn tricks. After 43 years of working in various jobs in the automotive industry and taking pay cuts and lesser jobs, I called it quits. I have seen the industry through gas guzzlers to fancy ideas about electric cars and I am curious about this movement.

I have seen the worst in men and the best. I am worried about my grandchildren and their futures. I want them to have a healthy environment and their children too someday. I don't know how much I can do in my advanced years and maybe all I can do is learn a few things and pass them along, but that is why I am here.

Sorry that I have been neglecting this forum a little. Welcome all of you to the community. It is nice to see such a diversity of people represented here. It just shows that this movement of greening our living spaces has a chance.

I hope everyone finds what they are looking for here.

As my name implies, I am a hippie, well a nouveau hippie of sorts. I am happy to have found this site as I am lacking in understanding of how homes fit into my natural existence. Thanks for hosting this forum.

Hi everyone.

I am a social worker who has decided to move myself and my dogs down to New Orleans to live and be a part of the redevelopment and salvation of a once great city, that of course will rise again. I am building myself a new home there as well as looking into helping out with other construction efforts. I am handy but have never really built a home. I want to be "green" and I know that the movement to restart in a sustainable fashion is pretty strong down here.

Hi to all,

I am currently renting, but when this changes the environmental implications of the choices I make are paramount to my decision-making. So, I guess you could count me as someone who is trying to absorb as much information as I can in the interim.

This looks like a great resource from what I've read so far. Congratulations.

Apologies for the double-post by the way. Internet gremlins afflicted me, it won't be a precedent so please don't worry.

Hi,

I have been writing about our home reno and home energy conservation experiences for about 2 years on our home blog.

I just came upon this sight, which looks filled with lots of great information, this morning from a Google Alert on solar air heaters. We installed a commercial one last year and so far so good.

Anyway, just thought I would introduce myself.

Dan
