What is carbon neutral. Well that isn't as clear cut as you would think. Some say it means that you save as much carbon through a reduction in energy consumption from carbon emitting processes (burning coal) through the use of non emitting processes like solar PV cells.

I do wish it were that simple. I am not saying you shouldn't go for it and buy those solar panels or wind turbine. I am all for that in fact I have some myself. I am advocating a more conscious approach to going carbon neutral and truly trying to reach that paradigm.

When you exhale = carbon. The processes used to make those PV cells = emitted carbon. The transportation and installation of that wind turbine = emitted carbon. True carbon neutrality is difficult at best and more likely impossible (especially with every increasing populations and increasing development throughout the world).

Carbon neutrality is a wonderful idea and one I strive for, not with the intent of achieving my goal, but with the hopes that with each step I take, I am closer to a ideal means of human life.

I completely understand the word soup that centers around the "green" movement. Carbon neutral doesn't actually mean carbon neutrality. As with any trend or movement the marketers get a hold of it and run it into the ground and twist words and make it into something it is not.

I am a bit of an idealist and I too strive to live a more carbon neutral life, but I just wish the language of the movement matched the actual meanings of what people are doing.

Its about relative carbon neutrality. We all breath, so we all produce carbon emissions, but to reduce your carbon emissions in a sustainable perspective means to come into balance with the global system/environment.

I understand the balance in nature, but carbon neutrality is a difficult concept to distill. I think we can all strive for the ideal of carbon neutrality, but to say that one person lives a carbon neutral life is a fallacy.

Why does it have to be an attainable ideal. Carbon neutrality isn't necessarily impossible. Difficult, maybe and not very feasible for the majority of people, but impossible... No. I think it should instead be a goal, one that each of us strives to achieve.
