It seems like not that long ago the big push to switch to CFL bulbs was the hot ticket item in going green and now we are seeing the rise of LED bulbs. They are more expensive, last longer and hopefully perform as well if not better than CFLs. The push, of course, has to do with the myth of the mercury content of CFLs and how it puts your family at risk.

What I want to know is how many people are actually considering switching their homes over to LED lighting technology once it becomes readily available????

I am going to phase them in as my CFLs die. I hope that the technology will catch up in time. Right now I just don't see viable replacements on the market, even at the extreme costs.

If I can afford it, I definitely intend to switch over time.

I have one already. Its not one of those new ones that supposedly competes with standard A60 bulbs but it does a pretty good job. I am meaning to switch out all my flood lights first and then to the accent lights.

So how well does the one you have perform? Does it claim to be a 60 watt replacement? I know the flood lights have been around for a few years now but what I am looking forward to is the accent light, the true 60 watt replacement.

Not even close. I would put it in the 30-35 watt range, but unless I am reading a book, it serves its purpose. I did always think that the standard 60 watter put out too much light for most lighting needs.

LED is still a few years away for complete market viability. the elimination of incandescents is going to help, but CFLs will likely be the winners in the short run. I want to do the LED thing, but the investment is so severe.

I would definitely want to switch to LED bulbs even if they are a little expensive. But the sad point is that i haven't found any shops selling that.. Guess besides LEDs, solar lamps (good old SunFusion Energy)are a good choice too..
