I just read about this on Treehugger and I love it. I know there was a conversation about green lawnmowers at one point. Maybe this is the option for everyone.

Here is the link to the website Mow Cycle

Now that's cool. I think I could swing one of these. I wish they would make them for production.

I wonder how much these people would charge for one of these. I also wonder if any big manufacturer would be willing to jump in and mass produce these. I think more people would use this rather than a reel mower. I do wonder about saftey issues with the VERY sharp blade right under your seat and near your feet as you get off.

This would be great for flat terrain. I worry that for hilly terrain or intricate landscapes that it would be really difficult. Does it even have reverse? That would be a must for any mower.

I agree that the mower has some issues (hills, blades, safety). But, it is a right first step. I have personally used the old fashioned push variety human-powered lawn mower. Once you get momentum going, slight inclines are not such a problem. The trick is to keep the blade moving. Either way, teaching people that you don't need fossil fuels to cut grass is definitely a step in the right direction and the folks a Mow Cycle should be applauded for what they have created.

I wonder if the safety issues could be addressed by simply creating a shield. I know from experience that reel mowers can be scary, with all the exposed blades and such, but the issue here is the proximity to the blades. For the push behind version, you really never get that close to the blades, but with this, they are within inches of your rump and hands.

I am still all for this making it to production.
