Living up here in the cold cold north east of the US, I find it very important to step up my game in the winter months in order to maintain my green life. I add clothes rather than turning up the thermostat. I do the whole plastic wrapping of my windows. I do a lot of little things really.

I was just curious what other people do during the winter months to be green, save money and maintain what in the summer is a much easier task. Well that is at least for the northern climates. My guess is that in the southwest everything would be exactly the opposite.

In that case, what do you do in the extreme climate conditions of your area to be more sustainable?

I like to turn down the thermostat to 65-68 during the winters. I like to pull out the warm socks and sweaters and keep myself warm with my own body heat. I also use the heat from my oven and dishwasher when they are cooling down to help heat the house. Its a little but no use in wasting it.

I added weatherstripping to my old double hung windows, fixed all of the glazing putty and installed a solar air heater. Turn down the T-stat to 64 the nights that my wife works. Have plans to seal the cracks and holes that lead up to the attic.

boss, haha. What temp do you have to have it when the wife is at home? My wife doesn't like it cold either and when I try to say just add a sweater or put on heavier socks, I get the look of death.
