Crossville has announced a new line of products created with the use of recycled tiles. These new tile products help to divert a large stream of sample tiles and old tile installations from ending up in our landfills. The process crushes old tiles into a powder that is then used in the tile production process.

    Check them out

Good stuff. I saw some at a store the other day. They really look and feel like any other tile product. A slight mark-up in price, but for the most part its the same product.

If the pevious adhesive is thinset mortar, and it is tightly adhering to the tile, then you need only remove enough to make it easy to set level with the other tiles. If it is a mastic (yellow or brown colored glue), you need to remove it.

What "goop" are you using to set the tiles?

The environment benefits greatly from the use of recycled glass tiles as well. It takes less energy to re-form glass tiles from recycled materials than it does to create glass tiles out of nothing. With less energy used, then there will be less fossil fuel usage leading to longer life on the earth; if all the talk about global warming and fossil fuel usage is true. As stated previously, the use of recycled glass tiles benefits the environment by reducing the need for glass filled landfills and other storage units.
