Too many homes are filled with artificial lighting. Sure you need it when the sun goes down or during a storm, but why oh why do people still use them during the day?

Probably because most homes today do not take advantage of daylighting strategies. Bringing in the sun can add such a vibrance and life to your home. Natural light is higher quality and often brighter than what you get from even the best incandescent (I don't use them anymore anyway).

Natural daylighting saves money and also can help with your mood. Even on an overcast day, the sky is bright enough to light a home if designed correctly.

I agree that new homes should harness the sun for lighting purposes, but for those of us already in homes we are kind of limited on our options.

Daylighting is key in a home and its such a shame that most people don't consider it more when designing and siting their homes.

I rarely turn on my lights on most days and it takes a pretty good storm to drop lighting levels to the point where I need to turn the lights on.

If people don't have good daylighting there are some retrofits that aren't overly expensive that could help

    - light tube
    - skylights
    - simply opening the blinds
    - makeshift light shelf (may not look the best but it works)
