So this was listed in another post on this forum, but I thought it deserved some attention as it is very important that people know that there is money available to help ease the cost of greening one's home.

http://www.dsireusa.org/

Just navigate to your state and make sure to check out the federal/national programs that are available.

This is a great source and almost always up-to-date. I think one of the best benefits is the level of detail and assistance you get with how to go about obtaining these grants, loans, etc.

This should be the first stop for anyone hoping to gain financial assistance for a green project.

I looked this site up and was pleasantly surprised to find state rebates, grants and such on the site as well as the federal stuff. I do wish I had the opportunity to do some of this stuff as it seems like there are sizable savings to be had.

Great resource. thanks. It would be great if we didn't need incentives to go green, but times are tight and most people can't afford the added cost of going green.

I wish there was more help out there for those of us who want to go green but can't afford it, but with everyone jumping on the bandwagon, the grants often run out before the most needy people can get the funds. Tax deductions are nice, but you only end up getting 15-20% of that amount back in your pockets. Grants are better but are limited. Tax credits are few and far between and require a good amount of upfront spending. I just want more programs to help with the initial cost.

I love that this site has state and federal programs. I feel that unless many people can see the financial benefit in going green, they won't do it. It is a sad story that people would rather have more money, more possessions and more this and that than they would like to have a cleaner environment.

More education and public visibility needs to happen that shows people the long term benefits of going green. People need to understand the dire situation that we could be in if something does not change. I think that sites like this that show where the financial benefit could be are helpful but only help to perpetuate the need to make money rather than save the environment.
